Start in the old town, not on a pepper farm
Keep your first day in Kampot simple: walk the old town and riverside, then leave the countryside for another day. Pepper country, the salt fields toward Kep, Phnom Chhnork and Bokor Mountain require transport. Use the first day to learn the numbered grid and how to get back to your accommodation.
Kampot's old town is the compact shophouse grid on the east bank of the river, with local dining spots and the old market streets. Street 735 runs along the riverside. The Old Bridge is a landmark at the western edge of the grid; the newer bridge is farther north. Follow current signs rather than assuming either crossing is pedestrian-only.
Streets for a first-day walk
Street 730: Epic Arts Cafe is a breakfast, coffee and cake stop. Check the listing or door for current service hours.
Street 726: Twenty Three and Burgershack are dining options on the old market street. Their opening days differ, so keep an alternative nearby.
Street 722: Aroma House, at number 33, is listed for house-made bread, hummus and shawarma.
Street 724: Simple Things is a vegetarian restaurant in the old-market block. The Giant Ibis office and Ucare pharmacy are also listed on this street.
The Kampot River and Street 735
Street 735, also called Riverside Road, is a useful base for a waterfront break, dinner or sunset when the weather allows. Rikitikitavi sits at Street 728, with a terrace facing the river and the Elephant Mountains. Artisans by Atelier Kampot is also mapped along Street 735.
The Kampot Provincial Museum is listed farther south on the waterfront. Check its current opening status locally before making it a fixed stop. Bring water and take a shaded break in the heat rather than filling every hour.
Lotus pond, the Old Bridge and the night market
Visit Sras Chhuk, the lotus pond, in daylight. Flowers depend on seasonal conditions; an October visit can show green pads rather than full blooms.
Use the Old Bridge as a meeting point or riverside landmark, without making a crossing essential to the walk.
The Kampot Night Market is on Street 720. Try it around dusk for food stalls, fruit shakes and snacks, but treat each stall as its own business rather than assuming one shared schedule. Pair it with a sit-down meal on Street 726 or Street 735 if you prefer.
Leave the province-sized trips for tomorrow
A pepper farm tour, the salt fields, Phnom Chhnork Cave and Bokor Mountain are separate transport trips. Save La Plantation, out-of-town cafes and mountain stops for dedicated days with an agreed route and return journey.
For onward travel, the Royal Railway station is north of the old town on National Road 3. The Giant Ibis office is on Street 724, not at the station. Confirm your actual boarding point and departure time with the operator.
Keep your shortlist open as you walk and check each listing before setting off. The Old Town cafe hop and Riverside sunset and dinner offer more focused ways to split the day.
In-town businesses for a walking break
Epic Arts Cafe, on Street 730, is an option for breakfast, coffee or cake during an old-town walk. Check its service hours rather than assuming it is an evening stop.
Aroma House, at 33 Street 722, offers a sit-down option for hummus, shawarma and house-made bread. It is an old-town alternative, not a stall inside the night market.
Rikitikitavi, at Street 735 and Street 728, is a waterfront restaurant option for a river-facing break. Check restaurant hours and table availability.
These are options within the town grid, not businesses at the attraction's entrance or a timed walking route. Check the actual street route and current opening status. This editorial shortlist is not a paid-placement ranking.
