Bokor Mountain: Areas, Bokor Hill Station & Places
By Kampot Guide · Published 12 October 2026 · Sources checked 10 October 2026
Bokor Mountain is a broad landscape above Kampot. Bokor Hill Station is one summit area; other familiar stops and lesser-known places lie across the mountain.
Bokor Mountain and Bokor Hill Station
Bokor Mountain is the wider protected landscape above Kampot, with roads, forest, viewpoints and places spread across distinct areas. It is much larger than a single summit stop, so a map pin or one day trip cannot represent everything on the mountain.
Bokor Hill Station is the historic area at the summit, around the old casino. Visitors also say “Bokor Hill” for this upper area, while Bokor Mountain refers to the broader landscape. Check current access to individual buildings and grounds; the historic name does not mean every building is open to visitors.
Bokor Hill: the hill-station area
The old Bokor colonial church is on Bokor Hill in the hill-station area, alongside other summit-area stops such as Wat Sampov Pram. These places sit in the upper part of the mountain, not down in Kampot town.
The old church is a landmark from the hill-station era, not a separate mountain or a guarantee of interior access. Nearby accommodation is a separate use of the area: check Thansur Bokor for its own current visitor or stay arrangements rather than assuming a hotel listing gives access to historic buildings.
Other familiar stops across the mountain
On the climbing road, the Lok Yeay Mao statue and Black Palace are stops before the upper hill-station area. They are separate sites with their own access conditions.
Popokvil Waterfall lies farther north on the mountain. Its flow and the route's suitability depend on recent weather and current access, so it may need a separate plan rather than being treated as a quick walk from the old casino or church.
Explore Bokor one area at a time
This overview gives the wider map: the approach road, the hill-station area and named stops farther along the mountain. It is not an exhaustive inventory of every trail, cave, waterfall or rural site across Bokor.
As routes and places are checked on the ground, focused guides and area-specific stories can cover a particular place in more detail. Follow each linked guide for that place's location and access notes, and check permission and current conditions before taking an unfamiliar road or trail.
Plan transport and time from Kampot
Bokor is a mountain trip from Kampot, not a walk from the riverfront. Choose a suitable self-drive vehicle, private driver or organised tour, and agree the actual stops, return, waiting time and any separate fees before leaving.
A full day gives more room between separated stops, but does not guarantee every place will be accessible. Check the road and visitor access on the day; do not assume every tour visits both the hill station and farther mountain sites.
Weather, access and mountain safety
Cloud and rain can affect the mountain even when Kampot town is clear. Mist may hide views, the upper area can feel cooler, and wet surfaces can make paths slippery. Bring a layer and rain protection, and keep the order flexible.
If self-driving, check your licence, insurance, brakes and vehicle suitability for the road and conditions. Do not continue when visibility or grip is unsafe. Respect closed gates and local instructions; do not assume an unmapped route is open or suitable for visitors.
