Wat Sampov Pram on Bokor: a working pagoda on the plateau

By Kampot Guide · Published 12 October 2026 · Sources checked 10 October 2026

Wat Sampov Pram is the working pagoda near the edge of the Bokor plateau. Known as the Five Boats Pagoda, it features cliff views and unique stone formations.

What Wat Sampov Pram is

Wat Sampov Pram is a working Buddhist pagoda on the Bokor plateau, near the old hill station. It is a place of worship, not simply a viewpoint stop.

The name is commonly translated as Five Boats Pagoda. Travel accounts associate it with five boat-shaped rock formations nearby and local legends about the boats. Treat those stories as folklore rather than a documented account of how the rocks formed.

The viewpoints and atmosphere

The plateau setting can offer views toward the coast and the Gulf of Thailand when visibility allows. Cloud and mist can hide the coastline even when the pagoda is accessible, so do not plan around a guaranteed panorama.

Wear shoes with grip on damp stone paths, keep back from unprotected cliff edges and follow barriers and local instructions. Do not leave permitted paths to search for a clearer view.

How it fits into a mountain day

Use the Bokor Mountain guide for the wider outing. The Bokor colonial church is another plateau stop, while the Lok Yeay Mao statue and Black Palace are earlier stops on the climb. Confirm the actual route, access and return journey with your driver.

Do not assume nearby historic hotels are abandoned ruins: the mountain also has operating resort developments. Keep the pagoda visit on a dedicated mountain day rather than squeezing it between old-town walking stops.

Cover shoulders and knees, keep voices low and ask before photographing worshippers or ceremonies. Follow the site's guidance about shoes and spaces reserved for worship. No current visitor hours or entrance fee is confirmed in this guide; check access before leaving town.

Businesses for the mountain trip, not a walking detour

Thansur Bokor is a listed resort on the plateau, useful to consider if you want a mountain stay. Ask directly about current room availability and whether dining is available to day visitors; a resort listing does not promise walk-in access.

Bohemiaz Resort & Spa is a lower-area option listed west of town around National Road 3, with a restaurant. It is not on the summit or beside the statue, church or waterfall. Confirm the actual approach and any detour with your driver before considering a meal there.

These are transport-based options at different parts of a mountain outing, not two nearby doors or a guaranteed sequence. Check current access and service before departure. This editorial shortlist is not a paid-placement ranking.
