Kampot salt fields: the Kep road salt flats

By Kampot Guide · Published 12 October 2026 · Sources checked 10 October 2026

The salt fields are working flats south of town on the way toward Kep. In October, which is wet season, the ponds may be green rather than white.

Where the salt fields are

The Kampot salt fields listing marks part of the working evaporation-pond landscape south of town toward Kep. The flats cover a wider area than one map dot: the pin is not a confirmed public entrance, visitor centre or shop door.

Check the actual approach with your driver or a local contact before leaving. Do not assume every track branching off the Kep road is open to visitors.

Why October ponds can look green

October is still in the rainy season, so you may see water and green ponds rather than bright white salt beds or harvesting. The appearance depends on recent weather and work at each pond, not just the month.

Drier conditions are more favourable for evaporation, but a dry-season visit does not guarantee white mounds or active harvesting. Ask about current conditions if the production landscape is the main reason for your trip.

How to visit

No current opening schedule, admission arrangements or visitor facilities are confirmed in this guide. That does not establish free entry or permission to enter working land. Ask before using private tracks or approaching ponds, and respect signs and instructions.

Go in daylight and stop only where it is safe and permitted, without obstructing traffic or work vehicles. Keep out of production beds, give workers space and ask before photographing people. Wet tracks can be muddy or slippery; turn back if the approach is unsuitable.

How they fit into your day

Consider the salt fields as an optional stop on an agreed countryside route toward Kep or a confirmed pepper-farm visit. Sothy's Pepper Farm sits on the Kampot–Kep road. La Plantation is east in Bosjheng, not on the same lane. The Pepper country day trail explains how to keep the outing focused. Confirm any farm booking and the driver's waiting time and return journey separately.

This is not part of an old-town walking loop around Street 735 or the market grid. The Sras Chhuk lotus pond is the in-town pond; Secret Lake is a separate reservoir outing. Neither is another name for the salt fields.

Businesses to discuss for your countryside route

Cafe Espresso, listed at 17 National Road 33 on the east side of town, is a coffee option before or after a countryside drive. It is not a cafe at the cave, lake or salt ponds; confirm its current hours and whether it fits your approach.

La Plantation, in Bosjheng, offers farm-visit activities. Treat it as a separate booking and drive, not a nearby refreshment stop. Confirm activity prices, booking requirements and meal service directly.

Peppercorn Tuk Tuk is a directory option for arranging a countryside day. Ask for the specific stops, pickup, waiting time, inclusions and return plan. The listing has no public storefront pin, so contact the operator rather than looking for an office near the attraction.

These are optional businesses for planning the wider route, not a proximity ranking or a requirement to visit all three. Check road connections with your driver; a shared region does not establish travel time. This editorial shortlist is not a paid-placement ranking.
